Position: Disaster Recovery Planner

Description:

**********This person needs to be a senior or lead person in disaster recovery. They have to very seasoned in disaster recovery and have to be great in planning and developing plans. In addition they have to have great communication******


Following established Continuity Management development methodology, administers contingency/disaster program to ensure continuity of data processing operations should a system become unavailable because of a major interruption. Collects and analyzes operations, cost/benefit, and hardware/software product data; presents options and makes recommendations; serves as liaison between project and IT resources. Contribute to the corporate recovery strategies to meet business objectives should a disaster occur. Assess all changes in hardware, software, environmental and applications as to their impact on established contingency/disaster/recovery strategies. Incumbents are assigned projects of highest complexity; they will normally serve as project team leader for one or more complex projects, as assigned.
• Assist business units with assessment of potential business impact, and definition of critical, time sensitive functions.
• Provide advice and guidance to all other areas of the business and IT on all continuity and recovery related issues.
• Design, document, and conduct recovery specific tabletop simulations and disaster recovery exercises for IT team members.
• Coordinates the development, documentation, and maintenance of disaster recovery procedures. Act as a liaison/consultant to management relative to testing and implementation of the disaster recovery plan. Directs, reviews, coordinates approved project work plans, monitors various phases, activities and tasks of plans; provides technical guidance as required.
• Maintain business resumption plan to ensure the continuity of services and insure that the technical and logistical environment is created to provide the ability for critical applications and business units to be able to recovery from an extended disruption in business and/or systems become unavailable, coordinate use of the recovery site for testing and development, certify on a regular basis the status of recovery capability and report same to upper management.
• As assigned, in the event of a disaster, participate in the staffing of the Emergency Operations Center, to implement the comprehensive disaster response plan.
• Communicate disaster awareness. Emphasize goals and tasks as well as recovery strategies needed to meet business objectives during a disaster.
• Attends workshops, conferences, and/or seminars for training and career development.
• Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
• Provides technical guidance to team analysts and assists them to insure timely completion of projects, supervises preparation of all project documentation prior to release to user or manager.
• Ensures all current disaster recovery projects conform to requirements of all areas, i.e., policies, procedures, workflow, etc.
• Performs complex project research analysis when necessary.
This position requires the following knowledge and skills:
1. Requires continuous contact with all levels of management. Ability to chair meetings and conduct interviews.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
3. Excellent analytical, problem solving and project leadership skills.
4. Good knowledge of various methods, systems and cost/benefit analysis techniques.
5. Thorough knowledge of computer processing products and principles.
6. Good knowledge of data center operations.
7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of current disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies.
8. Good knowledge and understanding of conducting disaster recovery exercises with third party disaster recovery services vendors.
9. Basic understanding of ITIL ITSCM model.
10. Working knowledge of data processing in order to assist in the preparation of recovery procedures in this area.
11. Thorough knowledge and understanding of disaster recovery audit finding response procedures.
12. Good project management skills. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the testing of recovery plans.
13. Strong human relations skills to interface with managers and staff at all levels within the organization and to deal with vendors of facilities and disaster recovery services.
Education and Experience:
1. Bachelors Degree in Business, Information Management, or a related field; or the equivalent in education and work experience.
2. Ten to fifteen years of related work experience.
3. Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) or Associate Disaster Recovery Planner accreditation a plus.
